SLENDER,
TENDER & TALL
P-51D Mustang N51DT
Slender,
Tender & Tall was built in Australia by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation
in 1944. This aircraft served in Australia for many years as a front line defense
fighter. Upon retirement, the aircraft was transferred to the United States where
it was owned by various civilian owners, and led a rather uneventful flying career.
In 1994, this aircraft was purchased by Dick Thurman, who had Stallion 51 Maintenance
completely restore the Mustang back to combat configuration. Upon completion of
the restoration, the aircraft was painted in the authentic markings of Lt. Colonel
William T. Halton, of the 352nd Fighter Group, 487th Fighter Squadron based at
Bodney England. Lt. Colonel Halton would later become the Squadron Commander of
the 487th Fighter Squadron when Mr. J.C. Meyer would return stateside in 1944.
In 1997, Slender, Tender & Tall won Reserve Grand Champion at Sun'n Fun.
In 1999, Slender Tender & Tall transferred ownership to Mr. Thomas Blair
in Gaithersburg, MD where it is kept in pristine condition.
